Our Past
In 1967, Joseph Mungo and Chester Niedziela made the decision to leave one of Chicago’s most prestigious architectural and engineering firms. They believed they could bring a new level of exceptional engineering design to architects and builders throughout the United States. It was on that belief that MGN was founded in the City of Chicago.
During the infancy years, MGN worked alongside multiple mechanical contractors providing design-build, shop fabrication, and as-built drawing services.
As work began to pick up, MGN found itself getting into specialized industrial projects for laboratories, manufacturing and agriculture.
MGN expanded its design capabilities into U.S. military projects for the Navy and Air Force including the design for a nuclear submarine instrumentation calibration room. In 1982, MGN celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
MGN continued its industrial and government work and continued its growth. Project workload began to increase in the commercial sector including several golf country clubs. New clients included the United States Postal Service and AT&T.
The new millennium ushered in the green building revolution and MGN was on the forefront completing several LEED Certified projects. Some new clients included Chicago Public Schools, Chase Bank, and O’Hare Airport.
Despite the economic downturn before the new decade, MGN was able to adapt and take on new and different clients. It expanded its expertise into restaurants, retail, refrigerated warehouses, clean rooms and food testing laboratories. In 2017, MGN celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
Early Projects
In the early years, MGN's work focused on industrial, commercial and government projects.
Special projects during that time included:
Design of an incineration system for Funk Seeds that burned corn seed by-products and corn cobs to dry corn. The new system substantially reduced the use of natural gas and corn disposal costs.
Full MEP design services for the Robert Bosch Corporation’s automotive parts plant in Charleston, SC. The project covered 166,00 sq. ft., included energy efficient lighting and HVAC design.
Designed and coordinated the retrofit of completely new energy efficient HVAC and electrical systems for the Philadelphia Naval Yard. The project also included 1,500 sq. ft. of roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels.
